The network of Croatian women from Latin America, known as CroActivas, will present its projects and inspiring stories from emigration in Zagreb. This unique network brings together Croatian women from Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries, aiming to strengthen unity, preserve identity, and reconnect with their homeland.
The foundation and mission of CroActivas
CroActivas was founded on International Women’s Day in 2023. The network comprises 836 members from all over Latin America, ranging from Mexico to the southernmost parts of Chile and Argentina. The goal is to connect women of Croatian origin, encourage mutual support, exchange of experiences, and preservation of Croatian culture and language.
Activities and Projects
The members hold regular online meetings and workshops where they share their experiences, stories, and skills. They organize panels on topics such as “Croatian women in the history of Latin America”, “Designers of Croatian origin”, and “Croatian entrepreneurs from Brazil”.
Projects include mentoring, entrepreneurship, cultural workshops, and promoting Croatian identity among younger generations of emigrants.
Stories from emigration
Each member of CroActivas is encouraged to write down their immigrant story to preserve the history of the Croatian diaspora in Latin America. The stories include personal and family migrations, the challenges of preserving language and traditions, and successes in new environments. The network emphasizes the significance of women as bearers of family, tradition, and language, as well as their crucial role in passing on identity to future generations.
Presentation in Zagreb
The president of the network, Jelena Nadinić from Buenos Aires, announced her guest appearance at the panel in Zagreb, where she will present the projects of CroActivas and the immigrant stories of Croatian women from Latin America.
The Croatian-Hispanic Society organizes the event, and journalist David Rey Siles, who reports on the Croatian diaspora from South America, will also participate.
CroActivas is an example of how emigration can be a strong bridge between the homeland and the diaspora. Through joint projects and the sharing of life stories, the network contributes to preserving the Croatian identity and strengthening the ties between Croatia and Latin America.
